Mikhail Shishkin

Was born in 1961 in Moscow. He studied English and German at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. After graduation he worked as a street sweeper, road worker, journalist, schoolteacher and translator. He debuted as a writer in 1993, when his short story "Calligraphy Lesson" was published in 1993 in Znamya magazin. Since 1995 he has lived in Zurich, Switzerland. He is widely considered as one of the best contemporary Russian writers and praised for depth and complexity of his books and for his perfect command of Russian literary language.

Stefan Zweifel

Studied Philosophy, Comparative literature and Egyptology at Zurich University. With Michael Pfister he translated and edited the ten-volumes edition of de Sade’s Justine e Juliette. He collaborates with «Neue Zürcher Zeitung», «Weltwoche», «Du», «Literaturen», and the TV program «Literaturclub».
